A Poor Wayfaring Kano

After I posted the last two posts on Monday in La Carlotta I felt a hunger stirring in my loins. This hunger was a little suspicious, however I trusted it and bought a bag of popcorn and some water. It was late and I was exhausted, so I went back to the pension house I was staying at (Comfort Inn, I believe; a block west of the plaza) and went to sleep. The air conditioned room made it very easy to fall asleep.

Zzzzzzzzz………

I left Sipalay Friday morning around 11 am. I walked back to my bike where they told me that I had to wait a couple hours for the tide to go down because at high tide the road going back to the highway was covered in water. A couple guys who walked through it showed me the high water mark on their shorts to make their point. I just said I’d see what it was like and put my gear on and left. Once I got to the water it was a lot of fun driving through it, until I hit the deep water and

I left Dipolog the next day. Before I packed up I took a couple pictures of the “fire exit” right next to my room.

Even with a fiesta I wanted to get on to Negros. I packed my bike and left town for Palauan Port about 10 kilometers out of town, between Dipolog and Dapitan. The ferry was scheduled for 4pm so I took a few hours to visit Dapitan and see some of the Jose Rizal sites they have there. Dapitan was very nice, not many people about (probably because they were all in Dipolog for the fiesta) and the city seemed very well laid out and clean.

View Iligan to Dipolog in a larger map

Today was a travel day. I found that I have travel days and I have enjoy days. I don’t really tend to split them up, which is fine, but I didn’t do much today because it was a travel day.

Tinago Falls in Iligan, Mindanao

After getting a shave and a pretty unflattering haircut in Cagayan de Oro I made the short one and a half hour drive to Iligan. I read in my guide book that Iligan had some beautiful waterfalls so I decided to stay the night and visit the falls today.

On my way to the falls today around noon I stopped for some lunch, gigataan nga langka, or jackfruit cooked in coconut milk. Some fruits here are used as vegetables when they’re not quite ripe and this is a really good meal. It was only 18 pesos for the rice and jackfruit dish.
